The M-14 DID come before the M-16, and the Navy is right to stick to it. Bad Guys shot with an M-16 might die from the round immediately, or they might die from it later...regardless of time of demise, as one Nam-era SEAL said, Bad Guys shot with an M-14 stay down.

Revolvers were first used in the 1830s as "pepperbox" guns (think the "Clue" pistol,) but the standard revolving-cylinder, single-barrel was widely accepted in the 1840s.
