first: can anyone help me out with just what the hell the spikey things shipwreck has are? my best guess so far is that they're those tire-stoppers one would put on either side of the tires on an aircraft (used as a weapon by indiana jones, if i remember right...or maybe the brunette lady that was better than the other two indy-chicks)

second: if i get a pistol that looks REMOTELY like the one that came with shipwreck am i BOUND BY LAW to paint it silver? i think i ought to be..

third: why did they ruin the gi joe franchise again? i keep forgetting. [info]dragodonna and i saw a little of the saturday morning cartoon and we couldn't even tell which of the characters were FEMALE. and there was a robot dog that peed on something to save the day. and then it cried. i think. i dunno...it was HORRIBLE.

It's ok, I'm a habitual learner, and my knowledge of firearm history is limited to "The M-14 came before the M-16, and for some weird reason the Navy insists on clinging to the M-14."

Do you know when revolvers came into widespread use, by any chance? I keep wanting to think that they were in use as sidearms during the Civil War, and as such would have been carried by Naval personnel, but there's the distinct possibility that I'm utterly wrong.

The M-14 DID come before the M-16, and the Navy is right to stick to it. Bad Guys shot with an M-16 might die from the round immediately, or they might die from it later...regardless of time of demise, as one Nam-era SEAL said, Bad Guys shot with an M-14 stay down.

Revolvers were first used in the 1830s as "pepperbox" guns (think the "Clue" pistol,) but the standard revolving-cylinder, single-barrel was widely accepted in the 1840s.
